DISC team analysis article

Discover what's really going on within your team with a DISC team analysis.

Practical info

A DISC team analysis with a team wheel provides insight into how your team truly functions. You can immediately see where the strengths lie, but also where blind spots and tensions arise. By making these patterns visible, you improve collaboration, communication, and decision-making. This way, you can work purposefully towards a stronger and more effective team.

Do you recognise this problem?

You have a team that works well on paper, but there's friction in practice:

  • Some people dominate conversations
  • Others are withdrawing.
  • Decision-making is proving difficult
  • Cooperation feels out of balance

You notice something is going on in the team dynamics, but it remains difficult to put your finger on it.

A DISC team analysis can help with that.

What is a DISC team wheel?

A DISC team wheel is a visual representation of all the DISC profiles within a team.

Where DISC normally provides insight into individuals, the Team Wheel shows:

  • How the team as a whole is built
  • Where the emphasis lies (D, I, S or C)
  • Where potential blind spots might be

At a glance, you can see:

  • Is the team action-oriented?
  • Is the focus on collaboration?
  • Or is the team rather analytically inclined?

A DISC team analysis is important because it helps to: * **Improve Communication:** Understanding different communication styles allows team members to adapt their approach, leading to clearer messages and fewer misunderstandings. * **Enhance Collaboration:** Knowing each other's strengths, weaknesses, and preferred working styles facilitates better teamwork and more effective task delegation. * **Boost Productivity:** Identifying how individuals are motivated and what environment they thrive in can help optimise workflows and increase overall output. * **Resolve Conflicts:** By understanding the root causes of interpersonal friction, DISC can provide insights into how to manage and resolve conflicts constructively. * **Build Stronger Relationships:** Increased self-awareness and understanding of others foster empathy, trust, and more positive working relationships. * **Identify Leadership Potential:** The analysis can highlight natural leadership tendencies and areas where individuals can develop their leadership skills. * **Improve Recruitment and Onboarding:** DISC can provide valuable insights during the hiring process to find individuals who best fit the team's dynamics and culture, and help new members integrate more smoothly. * **Develop Individual Strengths:** It helps individuals recognise their own preferences and how to leverage their strengths, as well as areas for personal development.

Many teams only look at individual behaviour and miss the bigger picture.

A DISC team analysis makes patterns visible that you wouldn't otherwise see:

  • Many D-profiles → quick decisions, risk of conflict
  • Many I-beams a lot of energy, less structure
  • Many S-profiles Strong cooperation, less change
  • Many C-profiles High quality, slower pace

Without this insight:

  • Is behaviour personal
  • Frustrations remain

With a team steering wheel:

  • Does behaviour become objective
  • Understanding arises
  • Can you improve it targetedly

How does a DISC team analysis work?

Step 1: Gather DISC profiles

All team members will complete their DISC profile.

Step 2: Set up the team wheel

All profiles are merged into one team wheel.
You see immediately:

  • Where most of the energy is
  • Which styles are missing

Step 3: Analysis of team dynamics

Together we analyse:

  • Where do tensions arise?
  • Where does the team's strength lie?
  • What does this mean for collaboration?

Step 4: Putting it into practice

Let's make it concrete:

  • How do you communicate more effectively?
  • How do you make better decisions?
  • How do you make the most of all styles?

Practical example

The team felt there was “too much discussion”.

The team wheel revealed:

  • Many I-beams → many ideas and energy
  • Scarce C-profiles → lack of structure

Consequence
Lots of talk, little action

After the DISC team analysis:

  • It became clear that structure was lacking
  • Rolls are being adjusted
  • More balance arose

Result

  • More efficient meetings
  • Better cooperation

Real stories of teams that have boosted their work culture!

The group was very enthusiastic and positive about the team building

Very nice, we all got to know each other better in a slightly different way. Nice to also receive a report of the DISC analysis to review later. Thanks for the fun morning!

The host's enthusiasm made you actively pay attention

Had course day today led by GO Teambuilding.
The material was not quite for me, but despite that, I had an enjoyable afternoon.
The host's enthusiasm made you stay actively attentive and the activities to clarify the material were also fun and made it a fun and enjoyable day.

In addition, Demian was a very good mood setter and very approachable and really thinks with you.

We did very nice team-building activity. It was fun to work together in a different way and to get to know each other on a different level. We were fairly last minute with our outing, but we still managed to make it a very fun day and evening. Chapeau!
