Online team building for home workers

Online team building for home workers
What makes online team building so popular? In this article, we explain that there are two factors involved in online team building. These are especially important when a team largely works from home.

Part of an organisation
There are two factors that make team members feel committed to the team. One is that you feel at home at work. You are among like-minded people. You talk about the same things with your colleagues and on many issues you have more or less the same opinion. You are part of an organisation.
The team spirit
Often organisations refer to this as 'a family'. That club idea is reinforced if you wear the same company clothes and your workplace is decorated according to the company's colours and logo. And precisely the latter is, of course, impossible if you work from home. You no longer share the same workplace with your colleagues. You no longer eat in the company canteen where you chat informally. You no longer meet at the coffee machine where you secretly grumble and exchange the latest gossip.
Working from home
On the other hand, it is much easier to organise your working time at home. And that you are accessible to your family. If there is anything, your child can walk into your study. The latter has already led to hilarious videos on YouTube. For example, the one of an American presenter where, during a live broadcast, his daughter and then his wife appeared on screen.
Loose sand relationship
Home is never far away when you work from home. That, of course, is also the nice thing about working from home. You are in your private environment. And at the same time, you are working for the organisation you work for. The danger, of course, is that you have such a good time at home that work takes a back seat. You still do the tasks you are assigned but you feel less part of the company or team you normally work in.
Too much working from home leads to a loose sand relationship with your work. With many organisations forcing their employees to work from home, there is a need to get their noses back in the same direction. Taking a break from familiar surroundings and getting together online.
The benefits of online team building
For this, companies have massively discovered the benefits of informal online get-togethers. Complete with drinks box. Through well-known platforms such as Zoom and Teams, something similar to the interaction during a normal team meeting is created. The difference is that you can put your colleagues on mute online unnoticed - something you sometimes hope for during a physical meeting!
Online team building is doing
Even better than an online get-together, an online team-building game works. And that has to do with the second stimulus for team spirit. Getting together is an important factor, we wrote about that in the previous sections. Doing something together, however, strengthens the team spirit even more.
The ingredients of effective online team building
So if you want your employees to be more engaged with each other, you need to make sure they can work on a task together. Research shows that this is highly motivating. It improves team spirit and identification with the company. A challenging pub quiz or an online Find The Mol game contain exactly the ingredients that create more engagement. Below, we list them again.
- As a team, you work together on a task
- The game challenges. You have to find original solutions and, in the process, you can inspire each other as team members.
- You work under time pressure, which increases concentration during the game
- As a team trying to get the best out of yourself.
Breaking the rut
Indeed, working from home also has its challenges. You can easily slump and the organisation gets further away from you in your experience. Making a joint effort and having fun together with your colleagues makes you feel part of the team again. An online teambuilding event breaks the rut. By leisurely working on a task together, home becomes more in the background and your colleague more in the foreground.

Very nice, we all got to know each other better in a slightly different way. Nice to also receive a report of the DISC analysis to review later. Thanks for the fun morning!

The host's enthusiasm made you actively pay attention
Had course day today led by GO Teambuilding.
The material was not quite for me, but despite that, I had an enjoyable afternoon.
The host's enthusiasm made you stay actively attentive and the activities to clarify the material were also fun and made it a fun and enjoyable day.

We did very nice team-building activity. It was fun to work together in a different way and to get to know each other on a different level. We were fairly last minute with our outing, but we still managed to make it a very fun day and evening. Chapeau!
